Jardin Anglais: From 15 July, the first day of the Pre-Festival, until 8 August, come and taste the best our Canton has to offer

The Genevan countryside sets the table

This is the third year that OPAGE, Geneva’s office for the promotion of agricultural products, is taking part in the Fêtes in the bucolic setting of the Jardin Anglais. During 25 days, starting at 5pm and until late at night, the Geneva countryside’s women’s association, the Dames Paysannes, will welcome you and regale you with their produce. Take a seat at one of the many tables: it’s apéritif time. Would you prefer a glass of apple or grape juice? A cocktail with or without alcohol, with seasonal fruits or perhaps perfumed with a hint of quince or strawberry liqueur? Or maybe you would like to try one of the five Genevan wines specially selected for the Fêtes?

Genevan delicacies

No! No “plats du jour” or “steak frites”. After the apéritif, it’s time to try some real Genevan delicacies. Try the pancakes, served hot or cold, wrapped around a filling of “fricassée genevoise”, ground bison or boar meat, smoked fish, or mushrooms. Delicious! The more traditional ones are filled with cheese – tomme or chèvre – ham, and eggs or vegetables. Round out the meal with a green salad, fresh from the garden, and for dessert, choose between mouth-watering meringues and cream or refreshing fruit compotes. Let yourself be tempted!
